SYNOPSIS
Winner of the 1963 Palme d’Or, Luschio Visconti’s cinematic masterpiece THE LEOPARD recounts Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s novel and the history of Italy’s tumultuous Risorgimento. Aging prince, Don Fabrizio Cordera (Burt Lancaster) watches the aristocracy lose its grip as the middle class forms a unified and democratic Italy. Grappling with he loss of his culture and fortune he allows the marriage of his war hero nephew Tancredi (Alain Deleon) and the beautiful daughter (Claudia Cardinale) of a gauche and bourgeois aristocrat to maintain the family’s level of comfort and political power in the face sweeping social change.
