Tim Burton: A Week of Woe

A Celebration of the Visionary 'Wednesday' Director

DETAILS

Just in time for the launch of Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 on Netflix, the Egyptian Theatre is excited to announce Tim Burton: A Week of Woe, a weeklong celebration of the boundless creativity and distinctive style of legendary Wednesday director and executive producer.

From his days as a CalArts student specializing in animation, the originality in Burton’s visual style was immediately apparent. His talents brought him success as a multi-disciplinary artist skilled in painting, photography, and drawing, but his contributions to the world of cinema made him an undeniable global phenomenon. His ability to find beauty and humor in the macabre, the absurd, and the frightening has led to a filmography packed with adored classics that span genres, from romance, to horror, to the musical and the laugh-out-loud hilarious. And now, bringing those gifts to Netflix has turned Wednesday into a worldwide smash hit.

Tim Burton: A Week of Woe kicks off on Labor Day, with four family-friendly Burton classics that are the perfect way for movie lovers of all ages to bid farewell to the summer before sending the kids back to Nevermore Academy! Burton’s animated ode to our beloved four-legged friends, Frankenweenie, kicks off the day, followed by Burton’s unique spin on two literary classics: Alice in Wonderland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The night concludes with Burton's first feature film, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

Later in the week, we’ll play some of Burton’s most beloved and most sinister tales for grown-ups, including the Oscar-winning Ed Wood, the bizarrely beautiful love stories of Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish, and the gruesome horrors of Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. And don’t miss a special 35mm presentation of Mars Attacks!.

Wednesday Season 2, Part 2 premieres on Wednesday, September 3. Watch the trailer for Part 2 here.
