SYNOPSIS

Double Feature!

As we eagerly await the premiere of Guillermo del Toro’s hotly anticipated adaption of Mary Shelly’s legendary Gothic novel Frankenstein (in select theaters, including the Egyptian, on October 17), we’d like to spotlight two of the biggest cinematic inspirations on del Toro’s forthcoming film, and really, on his career and life as a whole.

The Egyptian Theatre is excited to announce special, one-day-only double feature screenings of James Whale’s horror classics, Frankenstein (1931) and The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), on Tuesday, October 7. Featuring the iconic depiction of The Monster by Boris Karloff, later joined by an equally memorable Elsa Lanchester as the Bride, these films have remained at the top of the list of influential, unforgettable horror classics for nearly a century.

When Guillermo del Toro saw these films as a child, it sparked his imagination so fiercely that it began a lifelong obsession with monsters, and later a career dedicated to evoking their fantastical worlds onscreen. Whether experiencing these classics for the first time, or revisiting them, join us to celebrate their undeniable impact on cinema history.

Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein opens in select theaters on October 17, and on Netflix November 7. Frankenstein opens on October 17 at the Egyptian, playing on 35mm.

Frankenstein (1931)

Boris Karloff stars as the screen's most memorable monster in what many consider to be the greatest horror film ever made. Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) dares to tamper with life and death by creating a human monster (Boris Karloff) out of lifeless body parts. It's director James Whale's adaptation of the Mary Shelley novel blended with Karloff's compassionate portrayal of a creature groping for identity that makes Frankenstein a masterpiece not only of the genre, but for all time. (DCP, 71 min)

followed by

The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Mary Shelley reveals the main characters of her novel survived: Dr. Frankenstein, goaded by an even madder scientist, builds his monster a mate. (DCP, 75 min.)

Frankenstein will screen first, followed by a 15 minute intermission, then The Bride of Frankenstein.

All screenings of both titles features closed captioning.
