SEX, LIES, AND VIDEOTAPE | LAURA SAN GIACOMO IN CONVERSATION
DETAILS
On Tuesday, February 10, Laura San Giacomo will join us at the Egyptian Theatre for a screening of Steven Soderbergh’s audacious Sex, Lies, and Videotape, for which San Giacomo won the “Next Generation Award” from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. San Giacomo will be in conversation with film critic and LAFCA member Lael Loewenstein.
The 1989 indie success also won the Palme d’Or, as well as the Audience Award at Sundance that year. LAFCA dedicates this screening to the final Sundance Film Festival in Park City, with Sex, Lies, and Videotape representing one of the most formative films in establishing that festival's identity.
Ann (Andie MacDowell), a frustrated wife, enters into counseling due to a troubled marriage. Unbeknownst to her, her husband John (Peter Gallagher) has begun an affair with her sister, Cynthia (Laura San Giacomo). When John’s best friend Graham (James Spader) arrives, his penchant for interviewing women about their sex lives forever changes John and Ann’s rocky marriage.
